Many of us will shift our focus to 2022, even though some people still want to go on holiday. If you are like me, you will be excited to learn about the bank holidays to look forward to in 2022. Spoiler alert: There’s more to look forward to!
England and Wales
The bank holidays for those who live in England or Wales in 2022 will be nine instead of the usual 8. To mark Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Who added day.
The Spring bank holiday was therefore moved to Thursday, June 2, 2022. The Platinum Jubilee bank holidays will follow on Friday, June 3. The weekend will be four days long for most people.
In 2022, we can expect some substitute dates for bank holidays. For example, when bank holidays fall on weekends, substitute days are used. The holiday is generally moved to the Monday following.
2022 will see the New Year’s Day bank holidays on Monday, January 3, 2022. On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, we will have a substitute Christmas Day holiday.
If the coronavirus pandemic has passed, shops will be open on bank holidays in England or Wales. There are some exceptions.
On Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, shops must close and trade on Sundays (six hours consecutively between 10 am-6 pm).
These are the UK bank holidays in 2022.
Monday, January 3:– New Year’s Day (substitute day)
Friday, 13 April:- Good Friday
Monday, 18 April:- Easter Monday
Monday, 2 Maybank:- holiday in May –
Thursday, June 2:– Spring bank holiday (this is earlier than usual).
Friday, June 3:– Platinum Jubilee bank holiday. This is a bonus holiday!
Monday, August 29:– Summer bank holiday
Monday 26 December:- Boxing Day
Tuesday, December 27 Christmas:- Day (substitute day)
Scotland
You already get nine bank holidays per year if you live in Scotland. In 2022, you’ll be able to enjoy ten bank holidays. These holidays are very similar to those in England and Wales, but there are some key differences.
First, Scotland has always had a bank holiday on February 2. This date will be Tuesday, January 4, 2022, because it falls on Sunday. Because it is a substitute for New Year’s Day, Monday, Who can’t use January 3.
Second, the Easter Monday bank holiday is not in Scotland. Instead, there’s a bank holiday on Wednesday, November 30, for St Andrew’s Day.
The Scottish Summer bank holiday is different from the one in England and Wales. It’s Monday, August 1, not Monday, August 29.
Scotland has no restrictions on trading hours, unlike England and Wales.
Northern Ireland
Is there anything better than nine bank holidays per year? How about eleven? If you’re from Northern Ireland, that’s how you get 2022.
You get the same bank holidays as England or Wales but with two additional. These bank holidays will be available in 2022 on Thursday, March 17 for St Patrick’s Day and Tuesday, July 12 to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne (Orangemen’s Day)
